HAWKINS, Texas — The LSU Shreveport women's soccer team delivered an offensive showcase on Thursday afternoon, defeating Jarvis Christian University 7-1 in Red River Athletic Conference play. With the win, the Pilots improve to 8-5 overall and 6-0 in the RRAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-10-1 and 1-5 in conference action.
The Pilots wasted no time finding the back of the net as Martina Bonilla scored just one minute into the match off a pass from Halee Hernandez. Jarvis Christian answered in the 21st minute with a goal from Valerie Morales assisted by Lisset Onofre, but LSUS quickly regained control and never looked back.
Diana Leon gave LSUS the lead again in the 40th minute on an assist from Lina Regadane, and the Pilots poured it on in the second half. Mada Uriarte extended the advantage in the 57th minute from a Leon assist, followed by a string of goals from Jade Derks (66'), Regadane (72'), Aida Monteserin (89'), and Leon (90').
Derks and Leon each contributed a pair of goal involvements, while the Pilots' balanced attack and steady defense kept the Bulldogs on their heels for much of the match.
LSUS will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18, as they travel to face Texas A&M-Texarkana. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
